If you're unfamiliar with Americana music, it's the roots-rock, bluegrass, country, gospel and blues amalgamation of contemporary US music that has completely defined its own genre over the last few decades. Think Alison Krauss, Ry Cooder, Johnny Cash, Miranda Lambert and even Mumford & Sons. This exciting coalescence often uses a full electric band but undoubtedly celebrates acoustic instruments: acoustic guitar, resonator guitar, banjo, and mandolin. A tough style to find a good all-around string for you may think, however...

GHS Strings, as one of the top string manufacturers in the US, has grown amongst the Americana genre and is the first to create a range of strings specifically aimed at those performers. GHS Americana is innovation in acoustic instrument string making. The string begins with a hex core for tuning stability, strength and durability which is then wrapped in either 92/8 phosphor bronze wire for acoustic guitar and mandolin (which has the added benefit of long tone life and corrosion resistance), nickel-iron for pedal steel or stainless steel for the banjo. The whole string is then cryogenically treated which not only extends the life of the string but enhances the tone. Set gauging is then chosen based on decades of knowledge acquired from GHS artists.

If you're a mandolin player you'll embrace the extended performance, wide dynamic range and consistent big tone of these strings. They respond perfectly to delicate finger-style passages and soft broken chord playing, but also kick when digging in for forte sections.

WHAT GHS SAY:
"Our Americana Series addresses four elements crucial to producing the world's first series of strings directed to the needs of players performing within this exciting genre of contemporary music. Our own roots go back decades as one of the premier string manufacturers with an abundance of knowledge in string design that incorporates innovation into materials selection and string construction while utilizing preferred gauging based on many years of input from our GHS Artist Family. Add in cryogenic treatment to extend the life and enhance the tone for a series of strings that will have acoustic guitarists, bluegrass players, country, blues, R&B and roots-rock performers embracing the GHS Americana Series of strings."
